Pristine Location
Situated in Florida’s panhandle, Old Shores will sit 30 miles north of Panama City’s Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport with easy access to tourist beach havens like Panama City Beach, Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Destin and Fort Walton Beach. Off the course activities include deep sea fishing charters, snorkeling and Scuba diving in the Gulf of Mexico and beachfront dining.
Dreaming Big – Overview
Michael and Chris Keiser, the sons of Bandon Dunes co-founder Mike Keiser are leading the Dream Golf team on this project. Other recent courses in their impressive Dream Golf portfolio include Wild Spring in Texas and Rodeo Dunes in Colorado. Old Shores golf course will occupy 80 acres of the sprawling 1,438-acre parcel in Washington County. No plans for additional development have been announced or approved.
Terrific Terrain
Rolling sandy dunes dominate the naturally beautiful site. The name Old Shores is appropriate since the land used to be shoreline before the Gulf of Mexico receded to its current boundaries to the south thousands of years ago. “This land just makes you want to get to the next bend or over the next hill,” said Michael Keiser in a media release. “There is so much variety – it’s hard to believe you could experience so many environments in one place. Every time I visit, I discover a side I had never seen before. This is an amazing and unexpected site.”
Highly Respected Architect
Tom Doak, renowned for this Pacific Dunes course at Bandon Dunes in Oregon, will design Old Shores. Highlighting Doak’s spectacular resume are notable courses such as Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand, Renaissance Club in Scotland, St. Patrick’s Links in Ireland and Streamsong Resort Blue Course in Polk County, Florida. “I’ve walked the routing with Tom Doak numerous times and I know this will be world-class,” said Mike Keiser.
Opening Date?
Florida’s Washington County recently approved a development order for the new Old Shores course. Presently, there is no set timetable for construction and completion.
